ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES
RFK Charter School expects all students to maintain a minimum of 90% attendance in all classes.
Parents/guardians will be notified daily of their student’s absence(s) through School Reach (text message, phone call, or email). Attendance records are also available through the PowerSchool Parent Portal on the school website.
Students whose attendance falls below 90% will begin a progressive attendance intervention process as outlined below:
- Advisory teachers will continue attempts to contact the parent/guardian by phone to discuss absences.
- Students below 90% attendance will be referred to Behavioral Health to begin attendance interventions and/or consider a schedule modification.
- The Orientation Team/Upper Team Advisor and Behavioral Health staff will work with the students and parent/guardian to determine necessary support to improve attendance.
- RFK’s Early Warning System will refer students needing continued intervention to the Student Solutions team to identify additional support and solutions.
- The Orientation/Advisor will contact the parent/guardian to schedule a Meeting of Concern. During this meeting, staff will discuss strategies and support to improve attendance. The student may be required to sign an Attendance Contract/Improvement Plan.
- A 10-Day Absence Notification Letter will be mailed, including a scheduled meeting date. The Attendance Team will meet with the student and parent/guardian to develop a formal plan of support.
Failure to attend this meeting may result in the student being in jeopardy of withdrawal from RFK enrollment.
- Staffing Meeting:
A meeting involving the student, parent/guardian, administration, staff, and Behavioral Health will be held if the student is at risk of withdrawal due to excessive or chronic absenteeism. The team will review interventions, support plans, and determine whether the student wishes to remain enrolled at RFK or may need an alternative placement.
Removal from School Enrollment
If applicable, a Notice of Withdrawal will be sent to the parent/guardian.
Re-Admission Process
Once a student withdraws or is withdrawn from enrollment, they must reapply and re-enter through the Lottery Selection Process.
